Another Successful Year for Men’s Volleyball At Hallam!

Men’s volleyball have enjoyed a brilliant season after the first team won the BUCS Championship for the second year running, whilst the second team won the league and cup double.
The men’s 1’s finished second in the Premier North division and then progressed to the Final 8’s Group stage where they defeated Bournemouth, Durham and Exeter to finish top of the group. They were then drawn against University of East London in the semi finals, and they won by two sets to one, meaning they moved on to the final at BUCS Big Wednesday.
In the final, the team did brilliantly to defeat Bournemouth once again, this time by three sets to one. Hallam took the first set 25-23 before Bournemouth equalised by taking the second set.  Hallam responded by winning the third and his meant that they were one set away from retaining their title.  After a battling performance, Hallam won the final set 25-22 to secure the 3-1 victory and spark jubilant celebrations.
Only a week earlier, the men’s volleyball 2’s had completed the double after winning the Northern Conference Cup. They defeated Manchester Metropolitan 3-0 in the final, winning the three sets 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20 respectively.
This was after they had secured the Northern 3B title. In their ten games, Hallam only lost one and were victorious in the other nine and it was this sort of form which saw them finish 6 points ahead of their nearest rivals and also guided them to double success.
Once again Hallam’s Volleyball coach Keith Trenam, earned plaudits for the great work he’s done with the teams. He’s certainly played a big part in the recent success of volleyball at Hallam, so much so that he now has his own hashtag, #VivaLaTrenam. However, the players also deserve a lot of credit as it has been their brilliant performances this year that has led to this success.
The men’s volleyball 1’s will now look to add to this success when they travel to the European University Volleyball Championships in Italy in late July.
