Fixture of the Week: 23/3/2015- BUCS Big Wednesday Preview

Big_Wednesday_Design_FileThis week’s Fixture of the Week goes to the two Sheffield Hallam teams taking part in BUCS Big Wednesday! The women’s football 1′s and men’s volleyball 1′s are both in action tomorrow afternoon, looking to return to Sheffield with the BUCS  trophies in the bag.

The women’s football 1′s take on Oxford University looking to win the BUCS Trophy to go with the Northern 1A title they have already won. Hallam have beaten Liverpool John Moores 3-1, St. Andrews 3-2 and University of Stirling 3-1 on their way to the final and will be hoping for one last victory tomorrow afternoon to complete the double. Oxford won the Midlands 1A league this season, holding a record of 6 wins, 4 draws and 0 losses whilst Hallam were victorious in the Northern 1A title thanks to a record of 8 wins, 0 draws and 1 loss. The game gets underway at 2pm and will be played at Hollywell 6 pitch at Loughborough.

Up next is the men’s volleyball 1′s. They are in action against Bournemouth University looking to win the BUCS Championship for the second year in a row. Last year, Hallam defeated Northumbria 3-2 in the final after beating Bournemouth 2-1 in the semi’s. This year however, Bournemouth saw off Northumbria 2-0 whilst Hallam defeated University of East London 2-1. Hallam and Bournemouth have already met once this season, in the Final 8′s Group stages and in that game, Hallam were 2-0 winners. Though a repeat of that result would be excellent, Hallam will know anything can happen in a cup final atmosphere and will have to be on top form to win the BUCS Championship once again. The game starts at 2:30pm at the Netball centre at Loughborough.

Though both fixtures are being played at Loughborough, both teams would appreciate your support as they look to bring some silverware back to Hallam. It’s also a big day for the University itself who will be the hosts of BUCS Big Wednesday in 2016.
