Women’s Water Polo Crowned BUCS Champions After Dramatic Win!

Hallam’s women’s water polo team secured the BUCS Championship this season in dramatic circumstances to win the title for the second year in a row.
Hallam finished second in the Premier North division, winning seven of their nine games but losing twice to eventual title winners, Edinburgh.
This was still enough for the team to progress to the semi-final group stage where they were dominant, defeating  Cardiff 16-6,  Bristol 12-3 and then Imperial College  19-5 to progress to the BUCS Finals.
Hallam were joined in the final by Newcastle, Bristol and Edinburgh, and would have to top the mini-group in order to retain their title.
Last year Hallam stormed to the title, winning all three games, but it was not to be as easy this time around, as Hallam lost the opening game 11-7 to Newcastle. With the pressure on, they then bounced back to defeat Bristol 7-4 which meant they still had a chance to win the title, when they took on Edinburgh in the final game.
Edinburgh had beaten Bristol and Newcastle already, to keep up their 100% record this season and make them favourites for the title. To complicate things further, Hallam needed to not only defeat Edinburgh, but win by 6 goals to retain their crown.
Thankfully Hallam did just that, winning 9-3 to revenge their earlier defeats to Edinburgh but to, more importantly, seal the BUCS Championship once more!
To add the icing and cherry on top of the cake, Hallam then secured an emphatic Varsity victory before going on to be crowned Team of the Year at the annual SHU Sports Ball!
