Joe Carnall Jnr is a household name in Sheffield. With his talents pouring out of, not one, but three popular Sheff-based bands, it’s not very hard to see why.

Now working on solo project, Joe Carnall Jnr, the ex-Milburn front man has gone on to perform as part of Reverend and The Makers and The Book Club since starting out back in 2001.

And when it comes to Christmas, he provokes more excitement than Santa Claus himself. I caught up with Joe to chat about his annual Christmas bash, his plans for 2016 and his love for Wham. Sort of.

Now, Joe, you are and have been a part of your fair share of bands in Sheffield. How did it all start out for you?

This probably goes back to when I was about six years old. Me and my brother joined a football team, we met a couple of lads there and we played on the same football team for years. Then when we were around thirteen we decided that we’d start a band and called ourselves Milburn.

So you were friends first?

Yeah, it was just a case of us all growing up together and being good mates, even after the band split up. We’re still really close to this day. But we were all just as rubbish as each other at playing instruments and stuff.

You’re something of a local legend in Sheffield but for those who haven’t heard anything that you’ve done, how would you describe each bands sound in one word?

Milburn – Focus

Rev and The Makers – Party

The Book Club – Quirky

Solo projects – Chin-stroking… because I’m an intelligent, mature adult now. Apparently.

This year you played Tramlines festival and you performed your solo material. Do you still get nervous putting out a new record?

It’s strange. I’ve been singing since I was about fourteen so I don’t get nervous about playing in front of people at all. It is different when it’s your own stuff. I’ve always written with bands and you sort of share the burden. This time, it’s all on my head. But I don’t get nervous anymore, I’ve passed that stage. It’s more excited than nervous now, which is quite sad really because nerves can be good for you.

How is it different performing solo as opposed to being part of a band?

Well, I’ve not done loads of gigs yet. Luckily, we’ve got ten gigs lined up this month which is our first proper tour. We did a couple of support shows for The Enemy, which has been good. I love playing to people who don’t know who I am because there’s no expectation. It’s the true test of your material.

What do you think of Sheffield current music scene?

I don’t really know an awful lot about it. I think you’ve gotta be a certain age to know all the new bands. You hear about ‘em but I think I’m out of the loop a little bit. I do like a band called Liberty Ship. They’ve worked with us (Rev and The Makers) before. Really nice lads.

If you could have written any Christmas song, which would it have been and why?

Absolutely great question. I think it would be Last Christmas by Wham. It’s gotta be. If you take the word Christmas out of it and replace it with any other word, it could be a hit any time of the year.

Easter?

Yeah, Last Easter. I just think it’s a brilliant song. You can play it on guitar, on the piano, you can sing it.

Speaking of Christmas, you put on a show every Christmas called Joe Carnall Jnr and Friends. What can people expect from this year’s performance?

It’s bigger…again. I keep pushing myself, which is a bit annoying, but it’s the best way to be. The stage is bigger, the room is bigger and there’ll be more guests. Liberty Ship will be supporting, it’s always nice to get a Sheffield band on first. I mean, why not? It’s their crowd. I’m gonna try and get more people to come along and hopefully some people from other places will come too. Let’s spread the love a little bit.

(He won’t tell us who else will be making an appearance though…spoil sport.)

What’s in store for 2016?

We should definitely have a record out next year, I just need to finish recording some bits. We’ve got a label in mind and we’re talking about what we’re gonna do and when we should do it. I’m gonna see how it goes. You’ve just got to put something out there and see what comes back.

And finally, if you had your own chat show, which three guests would you invite and why?

I’d have Ernest Hemingway, he’s a geezer and he loves a drink. Well he’s actually a bit of a misogynist but… I bet he’s got some good stories to tell. I’d have to have a footballer, you know. Probably Maradona, because he’s crackers. And then a woman, someone who would add some dynamic to it. Bjork.

H magazine were kindly invited to the Everything5Pounds bloggers event this week, which was held at Hallam Fm radio station, to promote their series of pop-up stores that will soon be taking over the North.

Having never been to a bloggers event before, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was greeted by a friendly chap from Bauer Media (the company behind Hallam Fm) and a glass of Prosecco. I was then taken to stations main office – a place I am used to visiting for the casual promo shift – where a handful of other bloggers were chatting among themselves. Everyone seemed really nice and had a passion for writing and style.

The tables had been decorated with Everything5 buntings and glossy magazines. Along one end of the table stood a handful of pretty pink gift bags, each lined with black tissue paper, and along the other were an array of sandwiches with fancy fillings, which no one had touched. “We’re bloggers, we have to take photos first!” one of the girls says.

We’re all introduced to Louise, a representative from Everything5, who is happy to answer questions and show us the collection. She might not have been dressed head to toe Everything5, but some of her key pieces are from the collection. You wouldn’t have guessed- she looks fabulous.

The collection is not like the collection you see from Press Days at Next. There is no Autumn/Winter divide here. The collection consists of two clothes rails with around ten to fifteen pieces hung on each.

Winter capes, evening tops, party dresses, jackets and skirts of various lengths, cuts and colours.

The quality of the clothes was my biggest concern – I mean, what do you expect for a fiver? With Everything5 there are one or two pieces that admittedly look and feel five pounds but the majority of the clothes are good quality and look much more expensive. Thicker fabrics are heavy like they’re supposed to be, and plus sizes are just as fashionable and well-cut.

Louise tells us that they also stock menswear, childrenswear and homeware, so there’s bound to be something for everyone.

The store pride themselves on providing ‘trend-led fashion on a budget’ and they do. Stocking styles similar to those found on the high street, for a

fraction of the price.

The store might not be everybody’s cup of tea, especially if you’re someone who likes to make expensive ‘investment’ purchases but if you love

fashion AS WELL AS a good bargain, then why not have a browse?

The online store has new arrivals on a daily basis but with over 1.5 million customers, pieces can sell-out in a matter of hours. So you might want to keep Everything5 your little secret.

All in all I survived my first bloggers event, met some lovely ladies and munched some free sandwiches. Could get used to this blogging lark.

There’s only a few more days remaining until American football is back on screens across the globe, as the 2015/16 NFL season officially kicks off with the Pittsburgh Steelers traveling to current Superbowl Champions the New England Patriots. College Football stars have been drafted and signed, dramatic cuts and trades have been made and fans have seen glimpses of what to expect from their teams thanks to the past month of pre-season games.

This year is particularly special as it marks the 50th anniversary of the Superbowl, the big climax to the NFL season in which the overall NFC and AFC champions face off for the right to lift the Lombardi trophy. Rather fittingly the “Golden state” of California has been selected as the host of the game’s golden anniversary, which is scheduled to be played on February 7th 2016.

The Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers and the Patriots are some of the teams tipped to be crowned the 50th champions by the experts, but one thing that makes the league so great can be its unpredictability. An early season injury to a star veteran or unexpected breakthrough by a rookie player can be the difference between playoff contention and finishing with a sub .500 record. With that being said we’ll try to give you a very brief break down of what to expect from each of the NFL’s 8 regional divisions this year.

AFC NORTH, (Ravens, Steelers, Browns, Bengals)

This division should be a tight one as on paper it’s filled with very competitive and balanced teams. Early shouts would say that the Browns would be the team that struggle the most out of the four, which is sad news for Hallam’s Welfare and Community officer James Manson, who has a strange and unexplainable man crush on Quarterback Johnny Manziel. The Ravens look like they may just have an edge over the Bengals, though not by much at all. Cincinnati will look to their strong run game to keep the chains moving while having strengthened their defence over the summer with signings like A.J Hawk and Michael Johnson. The Ravens have it tough with 5 of their opening 7 games being on the road, while also losing reliable receiver Torrey Smith in the offseason. His replacement is the currently injured Breshad Perriman, with many experts agreeing he should settle in quickly when he returns to action. The Steelers have a great QB in “Big” Ben Roethlisberger and a real star in the form of Running back La’Veon Bell, but possess a defence which has looked suspect to say the least.

AFC EAST, (Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, Bills)

It would take a brave man to bet against Tom Brady leading the Patriots to the post-season and possibly on to back-to-back Superbowl appearances. With the “Deflategate” scandal seemingly cleared up Brady looks set for a full season at the helm of a New England offence with some serious weapons available. The Dolphins can expect to be a threat to most teams they come up against and have the squad to improve on last year’s 8-8 record, but should ultimately fall short in any attempt at knocking the Patriots off the top spot in the east. QB Ryan Tannehill has looked sharp in preseason and Miami find themselves blessed with several relatively easy fixtures during the opening weeks of the campaign. It’s then pretty even between the two teams balling out of New York, who both possess fierce defences but pretty average offences. The acquisition of former Eagles RB LeSean “Shady” McCoy is a step in the right direction for the Bills, whereas the Jets found themselves making off-season headlines for all the wrong reasons. Your starting QB getting his jaw broken after a dust up with a rookie Linebacker sort of steals the thunder from any positive squad developments.

AFC SOUTH, (Colts, Texans, Jaguars, Titans)

This one should be an easy ride into the post-season for the Colts lead by QB Andrew Luck, who can expect to at least match last year’s 11-5 record if everything goes to plan. The stars of this seasons HBO show Hard knocks are the Texans, and with a Defensive Line as menacing as theirs they should be delivering a fair few hard knocks to opposing QBs and RBs alike. Let’s just say JJ Watt and a fully fit Jadeveon Clowney is a duo you wouldn’t want to encounter in a dark alleyway late at night. However the lack of a standout QB1 and an offense which can’t quite match up to the Colt’s will be their weakness. For the Jags it was a tough break losing first round pick Dante Fowler Jr to an ACL tear during training camp, he won’t see action until next season. They should still shake the stigma of being an “easy” fixture and may surprise a few teams they come up against, but finishing with 6 or 7 wins would be an exceptional season for them following last year’s 3-13 showing. Over in Tennessee the signing of Heisman trophy winning QB Marcus Mariota surely won’t be enough to propel the Titans into the post-season. It could be a long campaign for the former Oregon Ducks star as he looks around a locker room filled with distinctly average talents by league standards.

AFC WEST (Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Raiders)

Here we have yet another tough division to call with 3 (sorry Raider’s fans) very competitive teams vowing to be crowned the champs of the AFC west. Experts have pointed to the Broncos’ Offensive line as a possibly fatal flaw to the team’s chances of success, but Peyton Manning is a QB with the experience and quality to single-handedly drag Denver to the Play-offs if he has a good year. The Chiefs can rest assured knowing they have a very strong defence and an offence that can be relied on to move the ball, however they remain a strange and unpredictable team. Kansas City managed to beat both the Seahawks and the Patriots last time out yet also ended up losing to both Oakland and Tennessee. They receive a nice end to the season with 3 of their final games being at home and will remain a team to watch out for. The Chargers look to have improved their run game with the summer acquisition of Melvin Gordon and have added talent to their receiver corp. They matched the Chief’s 9-7 record last time out and have a squad that will keep this division extremely close. The Raiders can pull off an upset, (just ask the Chiefs) but don’t yet have enough quality on either O or D that can move them up to being a franchise that can hit a .500 record.

NFC NORTH (Packers, Lions, Vikings, Bears)

Really the Packers and Lions will be the two teams fighting it out to take this division with the Vikings as a possible wildcard team. Aaron Rodgers is a versatile QB with a great arm and decent scramble when a play falls apart, and this year he could genuinely lead Green Bay to a Superbowl appearance. His will to play on through pain and injury will also serve the Packers well, however he’ll have to make plays without one of his favourite targets as Jordy Nelson recovers from injury. The Lions finished 11-5 last time out and can do it again this year, however they’ll find themselves sharing the division with a much more competitive Vikings side. Adrian Peterson is a running back who will consistently tear up the yards for Minnesota no matter what stacks opposing defences play against him. But this year could see Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater emerge as one of the leagues’ top talents, giving the Vikings a new dimension alongside their run game. The Bears are a shadow of the former great teams to play out of Chicago and if predictions are right should be resting at the bottom of the division come playoff time.

NFC EAST (Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, Redskins)

The Eagles look like the strongest team in this division but will find the Dallas Cowboys breathing down their necks the whole way through the regular season. Philly may have lost McCoy but managed to replace him with the Cowboys’ own star RB from last year in the shape of DeMarco Murray. The Eagles also boast two other great running back options with Sproles and Mathews and have made much needed improvements to last season’s truly atrocious secondary. Tim Tebow won’t be along for the ride after being cut at the very end of preseason as Chip Kelly looks to hand Sam Bradford control of his offence. Dallas still has arguably the most dominating O Line in the league, but will be without a star running back to exploit the holes and gaps they will create. They will give Tony Romo the time he needs however to get passes off and regularly connect with star receiver Dez Bryant. On D improvements have been made and sturdy Linebacker Sean Lee should return after being injured for last season. The Giants finished 6-10 last year and will more than likely be there or thereabouts this time around. Eli Manning will push for a .500 record and no doubt Beckham Jr will extend the length of his NFL career highlight reel, but New York are several stars away from competing with the likes of Dallas and Philly. The Redskins could be in for a tough year and I can already see the Hard Knocks cameras following them around next off-season, documenting the much needed Washington rebuilding effort.

NFC SOUTH (Saints, Falcons, Panthers, Buccaneers,)

One of the hardest divisions to call mainly due to just how terrible it is. None of the teams in the NFC south managed a positive season last time out as the Panther limped through to the playoffs on a 7-8-1 record. This year any of the four teams have the chance to take the division, with the Bucs probably being the team with the least quality despite the addition #1 draft pick Jameis Winston. The Falcons have vastly improved a leaky defence with rookie picks such as Vic Beasley and Grady Jarrett along with other league tested veterans. On offense Matt Ryan didn’t earn the nickname of Matty Ice without the ability to be a clutch quarterback, but in truth whether or not Atlanta reach the post-season will rely on wide receiver Julio Jones’s ability to stay injury free all year. Over in New Orleans future hall of fame QB Drew Brees had a bit of a blip last year, but he’s still protected by a great O Line and should be looking to bounce back strongly. As for the rest of the squad several big name players are no longer with the team due to salary issues, but as mentioned the quality of this division really does still leave the Saints as contenders. The Panthers we’re pretty lucky in reaching the playoffs last year, but also managed to upset the Cardinals in the postseason as they suffered a QB crisis. Nether the less Cam Newton is a dual threat QB who may find himself enjoying his best season to date even with the loss of receiver Kelvin Benjamin. A strong Panthers defence with Luke Kuechly at the heart of it also makes them good contenders in the south, as they chase a 3rd consecutive divisional title. The Bucs finished with the worst record out of all 32 teams last season, ending with only 2 wins all year. This season shouldn’t be as bleak for the Florida based team, but they still remain a step behind their fellow divisional franchises.

NFC WEST (Seahawks, Cardinals, 49ers, Rams)

Myself and seemingly every other football fan has awarded the NFC West to the Seahawks before a down of football has even been played. They’re fresh off back-to-back Superbowl appearances which in truth should have been back-to-back Superbowl wins. The now infamous decision to throw on the 1 yard line on 2nd down will be talked about for decades. In the meantime however the hawks should use the loss as motivation and play with a chip on their shoulders, as they desperately look to correct the wrongs of that night in Arizona. An already strong squad hasn’t been changed too much and barring several key injuries should be a dead cert for the later stages of post-season football. The Cardinals would do very well to take the divisional top spot from the Seahawks, but a more likely outcome would be runners up and a wildcard route into the play-offs. They’ll be aiming to replicate last year’s successes which ended with an 11-5 record, however Carson Palmer’s ability to stay fit for all 16 games will be a deciding factor. The Rams look in for another so-so season after ending last year with a 6-10 record. The big trade over the summer was adding Nick Foles to the roster as Sam Bradford went the other way to the Eagles. St Louis have a good defence, but that might not be enough to end what is now a decade long run without a play-off appearance. There’s also talk as to whether or not the Rams will be upping sticks and moving back to Los Angeles sooner rather than later. Finally we have the 49ers and what a messy and eventful offseason they’ve had. Star running back Frank Gore left while linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland followed him out the door as they both retired. Fellow LB Aldon Smith was also released by the team after getting himself arrested. Colin Kaepernick is an athletic dual-threat QB whose speed can unlock defences and make big plays for San Francisco, but he’ll have his work cut out leading this team into the play-offs with all the cuts and changes to the roster. A bright spark has been the emergence of Running back Jarryd Hayne, a former star of Australian League Rugby who decided to make the transition to American Football this year.

Davey Silver – Hallam Warriors Linebacker.

Wayne Rooney returned to form on Wednesday night to return Manchester United back into the UEFA Champions League proper and with that we have the full list of teams that will compete for the European crown. We can now look towards Thursday’s group stage draw in anticipation of what will no doubt be another fantastic season of drama and excitement in football’s greatest club competition – but who will win it come May? Here we break down the favourites to lift the trophy in the final in San Siro:

Favourites:

Barcelona

The reigning champions struggled to victory in the UEFA Super Cup against fellow domestic rivals Sevilla in early August and were dumbfounded by Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup when they were unable to overturn a shock 4-0 defeat in the first leg but their form in the Champions League is rarely questioned

The strike partnership of Neymar, Suarez and Messi will continue to terrorise defences and when, not if, they comfortably qualify for the knockout stages the addition of Arda Turan is sure to strengthen their chances in the competition.

We saw last term how effective the impact of Luis Suarez’s late start was and Turan’s return to football – once Barça’s transfer ban is lifted – should help them to handle their many title campaigns successfully.

Chelsea

Chelsea have started the season poorly but the hunger of Mourinho to win his first Champions League as boss of the Blues will surely be a key factor in ensuring sloppy performances such as those against Swansea and Man City are not a feature in their European games.

The arrival of Pedro and his subsequent debut goal against West Bromwich last weekend will have been a lift for Chelsea but it remains to be seen if the Spaniard can make his consistent success in Europe rub off on the likes of Hazard and Diego Costa.

Real Madrid

Gareth Bale will be closely monitored and scrutinised by the Spanish press this season but it is in Europe where he will need to impress if he is to defy his critics and reach his potential with Madrid. If he can perform like he did for Tottenham in the San Siro all those years ago then there is no reason he can’t be part of a winning team in the same stadium on May 28th.

As ever the Galactico’s have strengthened over the summer and with the signing of Matteo Kovacic from Inter Milan they will continue their culture of attacking football in their attempt to claim their eleventh title. Moreover their continued pursuit of David De Gea looks to be over for now and so their defence could become a problem.

Man City

Relative newcomers to the competition when matched up against their fellow favourites, the Cityzens will be eager to show they can finally mix it up with the big boys of European football.

Their performances in the Premier League thus far have been a joy to watch and with Yaya Toure once again showing why he is one of the world’s best, City should be feared this season.

There’s also the small matter of the ever-improving Sergio Aguero.

Bayern Munich

The German champions are always in with a shout of winning the Champions League. Their duels with Barcelona and Real Madrid in the competition’s recent history have been nothing less than fantastic but with the loss of Bastian Schweinsteiger – who admittedly became a fringe player under Guardiola – and no new additions from Borussia Dortmund the Bavarians could struggle.

However let’s not kid ourselves, Pep Guardiola is always capable of greatness and should Bayern excel in the competition it won’t be a surprise by any means. Arturo Vidal could also be used to help avoid heavy deficits against their Spanish combatants.

The best of the rest:

Man United

Keen to sustain their place in the Champions League via the Premier League top four, LVG’s men will struggle to be successful this term, particularly given the inexperience of their squad that has changed dramatically from their last outing in Europe’s elite competition.

Arsenal

The expectation to win the Premier League is piling pressure on Arsène

Wenger and so the Champions League could prove a competition too many for the Gunners but making the quarter-finals will be a minimum expectation for their fans.

Juventus

Too many players have left for them to have any real impact on the competition this season. With question marks still hanging over the future of Pogba, Juventus would do well to succeed domestically, let alone in the Champions League.

PSG

New signing Angel Di Maria will have to return to the form that won Real Madrid the trophy in 2014 if the Parisians are to have any chance of winning the tournament. Zlatan and David Luiz will also have to be at their best throughout. Reaching the semis would be a success for the club.

Sheffield United will not be able to improve on last season’s impressive run in the League Cup after being beaten comfortably by Championship side Fulham 3-0 away at Craven Cottage.

The Blades were poor throughout and, as if the drubbing on the score sheet was not enough, Jose Baxter and Kieran Wallace were dismissed late in the game. The free kick that came as a result of Wallace’s dismissal led to the Whites’ final goal after Moussa Dembele struck from close range after a pinball like move.

VIDEO: Fulham’s third goal. video-1440536547.mp4.mp4

United will be hoping the defeat does not impact on their league form which has been impressive thus far but a trip away on Saturday to Swindon Town who currently lie just two places below the Blades in 6th will not be easy. After four games United have nine points in their quest for promotion, a target that they should achieve.

Prior to the Tuesday night clash manager Nigel Adkins had been praising Kieran Wallace’s maturity. “Kieran has got a great attitude about him. He’s eager to improve and learn.”

Fulham have been poor in the league this season and have just two points from four games but they were able to find their feet in a game that saw former Leeds United striker Ross McCormack secure a brace including a penalty in the 62nd minute to open the scoring.

Last season Sheffield United reached the semi-finals of the competition where they were unlucky to be knocked out by Tottenham Hotspurs 3-2 on aggregate.

A minute’s silence took place before the start of the game in honour of the two Worthing United players – Matt Grimstone and Jacob Schilt – who were killed in the Shoreham Air Show crash on Saturday.

Words by Caitlin Black, Photo by Joshua Atkins

It has been a crazy few years for the Irish Singer Song-Writer Hozier, whose self titled debut album launched him into the limelight when his song “Take Me To Church” went viral and then on to stratospheric success.

Fortunately he has since come back to earth landing at the Roundhouse in London with the intention of preaching to the converted. The show opened with the up beat ‘Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene’, followed by “From Eden”, the bluesy “To Be Alone” and the uplifting “Someone New”. The increasingly excited and impressed crowd met each song with enthusiasm and recognition and impressive he was in his ability to recreate the intensity and power of his album.

Half way through the set Hozier was joined by his band member and fellow Irish singer-songwriter Alana Henderson for a duet of ‘In A Week’. This morbidly haunting ballad is told from the viewpoint of the corpses of two lovers found in the Wicklow hills. Heavily influenced, by the poetry of Seamus Heaney, Hozier in introducing the song recounts how “you only hear about the Wicklow Hills before or after the words: ‘a body has been found.” And while the music can at times be dark it nonetheless is tinged with humour and manages to be both darkly morbid and strangely uplifting and life affirming.

Staying true to his love of Blues music Hozier then played a solo cover of Skip James’s Illinois Blues further demonstrating what a talented musician he is. The band then returned to the stage to deliver ‘Like Real People Do” and the perhaps lesser known “Arsonist’s Lullaby”. This was cleverly followed by one of the stand out song of the night “Sedated” played with emotion and meaning with an almost gospel like chorus.

With the crowd firmly enraptured Hozier brought his set to a close with the song on which his star has risen – Take Me to Church, this bluesy, soulful song with a appropriately gospel choir feel that was simply Hozier at his finest. This was a certain and obvious hit with the crowd and was from the first bar greeted with a roar of approval and subsequently followed by a crowd sing-a-along and exit stage left from the man of the moment.

While no one expected that was the finale just in case the chanting, whistling and feet stomping from the appreciative crowd ensured Hozier’s reappearance back on stage for a triple encore of Cherry Wine, a cover of Ariana Grande’s “Problem” and finally ending with his latest single “Work Song”, rewarding this openly appreciative and sated audience.

On the evidence of this Roundhouse performance it’s clear that while his hit song “Take Me to Church” has brought him his deserved 15 minutes of fame his talent for storytelling, hunting melodies and powerful delivery means he is very definitely here to stay.

Sheffield Hallam’s men’s volleyball 1′s travel to Camerino in Italy later this month hoping to be crowned champions of Europe. The European Universities Sport Association (EUSA) take place from the 19th to 26th July and Hallam are one of fourteen teams competing. Universities from Armenia, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey are all present whilst Hallam are the sole representatives of the United Kingdom.

The competition was last held in 2013 when the Technical University of Munich took the title. Hallam competed that year but since then have been crowned champions of BUCS twice, in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015. They beat Northumbria 3-2 in 2014 to take the crown for the first time and last year, they defeated Bournemouth 3-1 to keep their title for another year.

Despite this success, captain Alex Jenkins was quick to cool any talk of Hallam taking the European crown. He told SHUlife Sport: “We are just looking to compete and play well as a team, we are missing a few crucial players so some of the younger guys will be relied on more heavily. This will be a great learning opportunity for everyone! Hopefully we can perform well and get some results”.

One man who has been crucial in the recent volleyball success at Hallam is their coach, Keith Trenam. His influence has been so great that the players have created their own hashtag for him, with #VivaLaTrenam regularly accompanying their tweets. Keith told us that the competition could provide a great platform for the players saying, “This is a great opportunity for the players to play against high level teams and help them to progress their game and showcase themselves for future pro contracts.”

Hallam’s squad for the tournament is as follows: Alex Jenkins, Owen Lamb, Leon Davis Chambers, Jordan Darylimple, Jonny Willis, Sonny Chaney, Alex Calpin and Jack Nurdin.

The draw for the competition will be made once the teams arrive in Italy.

We at SHUlife Sport are delighted to be accompanying Hallam and will be reporting on their every step so make sure you stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, as well as our Snapchat, for all the very latest.

Festival season is finally upon us. Taking over the city once again, Tramlines is a music festival that offers some of the biggest names in music AND some of the best local talent. What more could you ask for?
